My wish for you is that you find the same love and space in these practices that I have found, and that no matter who you are, an idea starts to fall into place - that there is a way forward through whatever life circumstances you have found yourself in.

I consider myself a beginner and probably always will but I can share what I know and what I’ve learned.

What I know is that all the experiences you’ve ever had and the ways you think of yourself and the world are stored in the way you hold your body habitually, in the way you interact with others moment to moment and in the way you take care of yourself and your energy.

What I know is that most people, if not all, house some sort of trauma. We humans live traumatically when we are not aware. Trauma in the mind lives in the body, and vice versa. Physical asymmetries and rigidities reveal places to be healed. With movement and breathwork you can improve alignment of the physical and mental bodies, and form a different relationship to your experience - one that becomes truly creative.

What I know is that you can change, even if you’re sure you can’t - you’ve just been knocking on the wrong doors. Most of us come from some sort of dysfunction that created the way we deal with life now. It’s why we avoid discomfort, choose to shut down instead of to love, and seek external validation over a strong connection to our inner wisdom. A limited tool box created short-sightedness but there are ways to unpack, integrate, find acceptance and return to our Self.

What I know is that we are all subject to a similar human experience and conditions of the mind - love, fear, blind spots, judgement, lightness and darkness - but it is often difficult for us to see that shared experience and hold each other in our humanity. The work is in our willingness to keep opening in the face of our confusion for the possibility of greater love and integration.

What I know is that birth is under-explored and under-embraced in our society and the implications of this are that many mothers feel unable to navigate their own births and the experience sets in as disempowering. Mothers that are empowered during pregnancy and birth, those that preserve their personal voice and feel emboldened, transmit this security of self to their child and the future is strengthened.

I am grateful to Chantal Vice for both containing and inspiring me every step of the way from yoga beginner to yoga teacher. You saw my light perhaps before I did. I’m also grateful to the amazing teachers, students and fellow birthworkers I’ve met along the way. These communities have created deep meaning in my life.
